Monsoon Season!

And I wish I was referring to a shopping trip to Monsoon the retailers!

Yet again a deluge of rain has landed on us, leaving our kitchen full of damp coats and soggy footwear, oh and a now smelly wet dog!

I have to apologise, friends, its my fault we are having this immense rainfall over a bank holiday week.  Its because I booked the week off,  bought lots of paint for the garden fence and some new garden furniture.  I made the mistake of ‘planning ahead’  and should have known full well that Mistress Fate does not like i when we make plans!!!!!

So have postponed my full week off an returned to work, which isnt too bad as I do work from home mostly, or travelling around the country looking for delicious foody samples.  I may even get some work done on my ‘My Foody Heaven’ blog – fingers crossed!

In the meantime, I will resolve never to plan outdoor decorating on a holiday again!!

The teaching cat

Bombarded with emails from twitter on who to follow, how to use my account,  profiles to fill etc etc,  so I took there advice and used my account as per their requests,  only to get the account suspended after 4 posts.

This also happens with Facebook,  you suddenly discover it, (not me, this is from my collegue)  find your old school friends, issue friend requests then get banned because you are classed as a spammer!  Meanwhile Facebook fill your Inbox with constant emails and re-spam you!

Share the love – Sweet potatoes and yams, 🙂

Rantings of an Amateur Chef

Here in North America, the term sweet Potato and yam are used interchangeably even though the yam is a different species and is rarely seen here. In almost every case when a yam is called for a sweet potato is used. While some dishes sound fine either way (Candied Sweet Potatoes or Candies Yams) others sound very unfamiliar. Today, we’ll serve Yam Fries.

It takes quite a bit of time for them to get crispy in the oven as they are 3/4 water.

Note: Five large sweet p…..I mean yams, yield a lot of fries.

It filled two trays and even then they were not spaced far enough apart.

The spices are just right to work with the sweetness.

The Sun

The Sun (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

its on days like today, stuck in the house typing working, drinking coffee, that I really miss the times we lived abroad as kids.  Only short times, never a long term thing, my father worked abroad, and there was no cheap flights then,  so we would spend school holidays with him in rented accommodation.

During the school terms, Dad would live in apartments in cities, but come the holidays, villas were rented.  Sometimes they had their own pools, and usually never far from the beach.

Not having Dad with us every day back in the Uk was sad,  no cyber chat, and no long telephone calls (no call packages then!).

But, we did write him long letters,  send him pictures, and when we did spend time with him, they were the best of days.

used the call the villas ‘The Sunshine House’,  every villa was named this,  and the name came from being able to sit in a room outdoors, where the walls where just trellis with filled with bougainvillea.

Looking out through my rain streaked windows with howling gales, where I wrap up in my 2nd cardi of the day,  I really do miss those Sunshine Days 🙂
